What is The Knot?
The Knot describes itself as an all-in-one wedding planning platform. Its home page lists a vendor marketplace across 20 categories with couple reviews, venues listed by US state and popular cities, and planning tools: a checklist, a registry, a wedding website for RSVPs and details, and invitations and paper.
The Knot's pages do not say that it is built around Indian weddings, so check its website for the markets and traditions it covers.
What is Mangalyam?
Mangalyam is free for couples; it earns from the wedding professionals couples book. It is built for weddings with several functions:
- Every function (haldi, mehendi, ceremony, reception) with its date, time, venue and a map link.
- A guest list with sides, party sizes and the functions each guest is invited to.
- A link for each guest party that shows only the functions they are invited to. Guests reply from the link without an app or an account.
- An RSVP view with who is coming to each function, and head counts.
- A hosted wedding website with your own design, published only when you approve it.
- A checklist with due dates, and guest photo uploads with 5 GB of free photo storage for every wedding.
- Twenty vendor categories, from venues, photography and catering to mehendi, choreography and drone operations.

What should you look for in an alternative?
An Indian wedding is rarely one event. Look for a tool where each function has its own date, time and venue, and where a guest can be invited to some functions and not others.
Check how RSVPs work. Ask whether a family replies once for the whole wedding or function by function, whether the guest needs an account, and whether you can see head counts for each function. Caterers and venues need a number per function, not one total.
Look at the website. You should be able to see the page before guests do and publish it when you are ready, with the schedule and map links for each venue.
Look at vendors. A vendor directory is only useful if it covers the categories you need in your city. Indian weddings can include mehendi artists, choreographers, priests and officiants, and drone operators alongside the usual venue, photographer and caterer.
Finally, check what it costs you. Mangalyam is free for couples, and photo uploads come with 5 GB of free photo storage for every wedding.
