Import your guest list from a spreadsheet

Updated 2026-09-25

Already have a guest list in Excel or Google Sheets? Don't retype it. Save it as a CSV and bring it into Guests in one pass.

Prepare your file

The importer reads a CSV file (comma-separated), not a native .xlsx or Google Sheets file. In Excel or Google Sheets, use File → Download (or Save As) → CSV first.

Open the guest options menu (the ⋯ button next to Guests) and choose Download template. It gives you a CSV with these columns:

Name, Phone, Email, Side, Relationship, VIP, Notes

Only Name is required. For Side, use "Bride", "Groom", "Mutual" or "Both". Matching ignores case, and a blank or unrecognised value is imported as Mutual. For VIP, use "yes", "y", "true" or "1".

Import and check the preview

  1. From the same ⋯ menu, choose Import CSV and pick your file.
  2. Mangalyam matches your headers automatically. "Full name" or "Mobile" work as well as "Name" or "Phone", so there is no manual column-mapping step. Columns it doesn't recognise are listed and ignored, and rows with an unrecognised Side value are flagged before you import.
  3. Review the first 10 rows in the preview table, then confirm.

Rows with no name are dropped. A row whose phone number exactly matches a guest already on your list is skipped as a duplicate. The match is exact, so the same number typed with different spacing or without the country code won't be caught.

After import

The guest list refreshes with everyone added. CSV import doesn't assign guests to events. Do that afterwards from each guest's row, or use Paste a list instead: paste names (with an optional headcount per name), pick the events to invite them to, and add them all at once, already assigned.

One import takes up to 1,000 rows. Split a larger list into batches.

Duplicate checking only compares phone numbers, not names. A guest without a phone number can't be checked against your existing list, so look over the preview before you confirm.
